NYLON TOOLS
Designed to be competitive in the high end kitchen tool market. The weighted handle lets the tool rest comfortably in your hand while the aluminum insert gives the tool durability. The TPR co-mold gives the tools a strong grip so they don’t slip out of your hand. Made with nylon heads to resist heat and keep your pans scratch free.
Ideation

The ideations filtered through ways to bring a high end aesthetic to an everyday tool. I focused on using accent materials that elevate the look and feel of the handle. I explored different handle variations with different locations of accent materials to determine the most practical location. This ideation represents a part of the concepts I went through during the development process.

Final Tool Forms

Whisk
The whisk features a shorter wider handle with a flat weighted base to allow users to stand it vertically when not mixing.
Ladle
Designed with the perfect angle to easily transfer liquid from short or tall pots.
Solid Spoon
The solid spoon was the first designed tool of the series, setting the aesthetic direction of the handle and smooth flowing tool head.
Slotted Spoon
The slotted spoon mirrors the solid spoon with the added benefit of being able to drain liquids. Developing a pattern that would work across tools was the main challenge here.
Slotted Turner
The slotted turner takes the pattern from the slotted spoon to keep a cohesive collection aesthetic.
Turner
The turner has a wide head to pick up a variety of items and features a hard chamfered edge in both directions to allow for a thin edge to get under your food.
Prototyping

Each tool went through multiple prototyping rounds to perfect the tool heads and the handle. Multiple in house prototypes were made to make sure the tool forms were right. Weighted handles were tested to figure out the ideal weight in the handle as well as the part assembly. Once designs were finalized we had outside prototypes made for final review before proceeding to tooling.

Main Design Features
Weighted Handle
All of the tools come with a weighted handle to improve the user experience. The aluminum bottom plate holds an iron weight that is then fixed into the polypropylene handle.

Draining Pattern
I designed and applied a simple pattern that would work across multiple tool heads and be effective when trying to pick up food but not liquid.

Standing Whisk
The weighted handle paired with the flat and wide base of the whisk allows you to stand it up when not using. Liquid can drain down and is caught by the cone of the handle.

Double Chamfered Edge
The turners have a double chamfered edge which form a fine point and allow you to easily get under delicate food while cooking.
