The Carafe Series
Designed to be competitive in the re-usable water-bottle market by referencing a traditional carafe shape and adapting it to new materials. Deciding to incorporate a solid wood lid elevates the design while making it feel approachable. This product was brought through to mass production.
Industry Standard Vacuum
The carafe uses double walled stainless steel with a vacuum insulation to retain temperature efficiently.
Solid Wood Lid
I added a solid Acacia wood lid to bring a warm material to an otherwise cool steel bottle.
Lid & Collar
Two piece design allows for easy pouring and a wide opening for cleaning.
Carafe Design
I designed the carafe to be a unique and stylish bottle to fit into your every day life as well as feature for at home use. The multiple sizes each have their own purpose: 17oz for everyday use, 25oz for an outing, and 50oz for at home use.
Lid
The wooden lid offers a warmer material to interact with besides the colder stainless steel. The solid wood is held in with glue and plastic posts to reduce delamination when the wood expands and contracts.
Collar
The collar design allows easy pouring and drinking. Unscrewing the collar creates a wider opening for cleaning and adding ice.
Body
The neck is narrower then most carafes to allow for increased temperature performance. Reducing the space for heat or cold to escape increases insulation times.
Lid Design
Two lids were designed for the Carafe to better serve the intended purpose of the volume.
Plug Lid
The large 50oz serving Carafe utilizes a plug style lid to make serving and re sealing at a table quick and easy.
Threaded Lid
The 25oz and 17oz lid use a threaded fully sealable lid to make taking on the go safe and secure.
Collar Design
The two piece threaded lid design was developed through the design process to allow the bottle to retain the spouted design but fit into the limitations of the stainless steel manufacturing process. The result was an improved design allowing the user more options.
Body Design
The Carafe was designed into three distinct sizes each to serve a distinct purpose. The small size is 17oz to fit into back packs and side pockets for on the go. The 25oz holds a standard bottle of wine for a day outing and the 50oz holds two bottles for serving at home.
